6.a:Critic: The human race has always been extremely interested in the dark side of life and the monsters that live there. This is a healthy thing because without evil there is,of course, no such thing as good. But what worries me is how our perception of these monsters and of evil has changed. Presenter: And how has it changed? Critic: Well, first we need to have a look at some of the classic monsters from the past and in my opinion, the golden age of the monster was in the late 19th century and early part of the 20th century. Presenter: The age of Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Jack the Ripper.. Critic: Exactly. Now what was so interesting about these monsters is that there was a reason for their existence. They were symbols of what could happen if we did wrong. Frankenstein and Mr Hyde, for example, were the products of men trying to play God. There was a message there for us. Presenter: So what's gone wrong?
Critic: Well, modern monsters have no motivation. They're just very two-dimensional. Presenter: For example. Critic: Well let's look at some of the most popular cinematic monsters of the last 20 years;Freddie from "Nightmare on Elm Street.,Jason from"Friday 13th"and Michael Myers from "Halloween"What we basically have are three killing machines. Now,of course, there are stories about how they became such blood-thirsty monsters but no-one really remembers any of the reasons. What audiences are interested in is how many people will die and how violently their deaths will be. Presenter: So you're saying there's no message. Critic: Exactly. We don't learn anything from all this violence. All it does is make us scared to go to sleep at night. The film critic mentions A, B and D.
b:1 of life 2 as good 3 19th century;20th century 4 play God 5 Modern monster 6 killing machine 7 people die 8 sleep at night
