艺术类型多种多样，包括取悦型艺术、盈利型艺术、尖叫型艺术和服务型艺术。所有类型的艺术都力求体现时间与空间的关联性。

取悦型艺术永远不会过时，因为人类始终需要以此提醒自己追本溯源，了解人之为人的起源。美、爱、欲望和平静的秩序感，都属于这一大类。

盈利型艺术作为艺术家的创作动力源泉，已经演进为一种艺术形式。

原始尖叫是人类最基本的反应机制。为什么不应把它融入到艺术中，并用艺术的方式表达出来呢？每代人都认为自己有特定的理由这样做，我们这代人也不例外。

这些概念或高尚或低劣，那么，我为什么选择了其中的服务型艺术呢？因为这种艺术旨在为其它艺术服务，为观赏者提供指导，使观赏者之间相互影响、相互关联的体系得以建立。

我希望我的艺术没有对当今问题的尖叫与抱怨，也没有只出于对眼前利益的考虑，而是充满美感的，它不仅与我们这代人息息相关，与后代也是如此。我们永远都需要与过去产生联系，而追求永恒的关联性正是我创作服务型艺术的原因所在。

There are infinite varieties of art, including: art that pleases, art that sells, art that screams, and art that serves.  All strive for relevance in their place and time. Art that pleases never goes out of fashion because humans always need to be reminded of what makes them human. Beauty, love, desire and a sense of calming order, all fall into this vast category. Art that sells has always been a motivator for artists, and selling art has been twisted into an art form in-and-of-itself. The primal scream is a fundamental human response mechanism. So why shouldn’t that be funneled into and expressed by art? Every generation feels that they have a particular reason for that, ours not excluded. So with all of these inspirations, noble and ignoble alike, why have chosen to create art that serves? My art strives to serve other art, instruct its viewers and enable the institutions where these constituencies interact/intersect. So, without screaming about today’s issues, and beyond immediate profit motive, I want my art to be beautiful and relevant, not only to our generation, but future generations as well. There will always be a need to connect humanity to its past, and the pursuit of perpetual relevance is why I make art that serves.

Eric J. Zetterquist

上世纪80年代，埃里克·泽特奎斯特(Eric Zetterquist)在纽约担任日本艺术家杉本博司(Hiroshi Sugimoto)的摄影工作室经理，开始了他的摄影事业。由于精通日语，Zetterquist负责杉本的摄影事业和工作室的运营。Zetterquist后来在纽约成立了自己的美术馆“Zetterquist Galleries”，专门经营中国艺术品和陶瓷艺术品。Zetterquist的摄影作品曾在亚洲和美国展出，他的《Object Portaits》专著于2018年由美国Nazraeli出版社出版。

Eric Zetterquist first began his career in the photographic arts as Hiroshi Sugimoto’s studio manager in New York City in the 1980’s. Fluent in Japanese, Zetterquist managed the operations for Sugimoto’s photography career and studio. Zetterquist later formed his own fine art gallery “Zetterquist Galleries” specializing in Chinese anqtiquities and ceramic fine art objects in New York City. Zetterquist’s photography works have been exhibited in Asia and the United States and his ‘Object Portaits’ monograph was published in 2018 by Nazraeli Press, USA.
