When we acquired the Lot 462 vineyard, we wanted to experiment with different grape varieties, and make wines reflecting our own personalities. 

However, we also had to produce our signature version of a typical Barossa Shiraz. Right away, Tana Shiraz was born. 

The 50-year-old Shiraz vines grow on the rich red soil of Barossa Light Pass. This serious Shiraz shows dense yet elegant layers, soft tannins with lifted floral notes and a cool velvet palate. The palate is full-bodied, rich and satisfying with ripe plummy fruit and bacon smoke, tightened on the finish by a fresh acidity.

Lot 462 is the story of three great wine men, and an amazing vineyard: 

Blair Hayden, the manager, with 30 years of experience in the craft brewing industry and owner of the oldest pub in Australia, 

Ben Chipman, the award winning winemaker (2014 Peoples Choice in the Young Gun of Wines Award), and 

Langdon Farrelly, the commercial mind, coming from reknown companies such as Moet Hennessy and Howard Park. 

These three men found what they believed to be one of the greatest vineyards in Barossa: a small piece of land with very old vines of Shiraz and Grenache, located in Lot 462.

The Lot 462 winemaking philosophy is simple: small parcels of fruit, hand-crafted through a simple and relatively non-interventional approach with the aim to truly reflect the individual characteristics of the vineyard and variety.  Lot 462 wines are made with old world simplicity in a new world of wine. 

The Barossa has a legendary reputation for its wine, and in particular for its generous, intensely flavoured Shiraz. The region’s first wines were produced in 1842. The Barossa offers friendship and warmth, idyllic landscapes and hand-crafted wines. It is a place of family, friends, tradition and laughter, and you are welcome to share the Barossa story.
