路德维格·贝梅尔曼斯（1898-1962），充满童心的作家和插画家，吃遍欧美的美食家。1898年生于奥匈帝国的梅兰（今意大利梅拉诺市）。6岁时父母离异，他跟随母亲来到德国上学，但由于厌恶严苛的德式教育，便辍学去叔叔经营的旅馆里当学徒。16岁时远渡美国，继续在旅馆里工作，20岁时正式加入美国籍。1934年，他在维京出版社编辑的建议下，开始创作童书，很成功的作品就是“永远的玛德琳”系列。贝梅尔曼斯多才多艺，除了童书之外，还参与过电影与音乐剧创作，并为《纽约客》等杂志绘制过许多封面和插图。1962年因胰腺癌在纽约去世。

Ludwig Bemelmans was a painter, illustrator, and writer for both children and adults. The Madeline books are among the most honored children's books of all time. Mr. Bemelmans died in 1962 after completing his sixth story about Madeline, Madeline's Christmas.
