This book, published to accompany the exhibition at the Palais Galliera, musée de la Mode de Paris, presents the museum's invaluable collection of 18th-century textiles. The Palais Galliera holds a remarkable collection of 18th-century pieces, comprising the rich collections of the Musée Carnavalet and the 1920 donation of the Société de l'histoire du costume, founded by Maurice Leloir, consisting of a thousand garments. Enriched in 1962 by a large number of robes à la fran?aise, the collection has continued to grow through the acquisition of rare pieces. In this profusion of garments, the shimmering beauty of textiles and colors never ceases to amaze. For the 18th century, if it is the century par excellence of the cult of appearances, is also the century of color (with the appearance of the first chromatic circles). Polychromy, the fashion for mixed, light, and subdued colors: 18th-century textiles are characterized by a multiplication of possibilities.
