根据中国外交部领事服务网的信息：”各州对外国驾照的使用规定不同，有的可能需要国际驾照，有的需要申请当地驾照。澳大利亚对初学驾驶者的学习、训练及考试要求十分严格，请注意遵守。"

很多人经常对外交部的咨询不屑一顾，但是根据美国国务院网站信息"Each state/territory has different rules about using a foreign driver’s license and the conditions under which a visitor might have to get an international driver’s license."

接下来我们看看澳洲官方的说法。

Driving with an overseas licence: "In Australia, laws and driving regulations differ from state to state. " 这是来自澳大利亚政府官方的信息。也就是说，和美国类似，交规权限在于州。那我们接下来一个一个州的看。

首先说一下，中国新版驾照个人信息不是全英文的（如你的名字，性别等等），所以不符合"licence is in English"的规定。真正中英文证件请参考你的护照。

WA,西澳："If your overseas licence is not in English, you must carry an international driving permit or an approved English translation of your licence with you when you drive." 也就是说，合格的英文翻译可以代替IDP,那什么是approved English translation呢？文中没说，但是按照国际惯例，公证及认证的驾照翻译即是。

NT,北领地："An overseas visitor is permitted to drive in the NT using his/her current overseas licence, together with an overseas issued International Driving Permit granted in accordance with the terms of the 1949 United Nations Convention on Road Traffic..." 完了，只规定必须同时携带IDP，中国驾照不可能有IDP，所以，在北领地使用中国驾照是不合法的。

但是，北领地最新的驾驶手册中规定(见第四页)，"if you are visiting from overseas, you must hold a current license from your country, and if your license is not in English you must also carry an International Driving Permit or an official English translation of your overseas license." 所以，NAATI翻译或者公证及认证的驾照翻译就可以。

SA,南澳："a licence with an English translation if necessary or an international driver's licence." 这个么，建议办一份驾照英文翻译公证。

QLD,昆士兰："If you are visiting Queensland from another country, you can drive if you have a valid overseas licence. " 没说英文不英文，不过还是建议你办一份公证。

NSW,新南威尔士："you do not have to get a NSW driver licence if you wish to drive in NSW while you are visiting. You can drive on your current overseas licence as long as: You remain a visitor;Your overseas licence remains current;You have not been disqualified from driving in NSW or elsewhere, and You have not had your licence suspended or cancelled or your visiting driver privileges withdrawn." 也没提英文驾照的问题，不过还是建议办一份公证。

VIC,维多利亚："you may drive using your current overseas driver licence for the length of your stay & your driver licence must be written in English or accompanied by an English translation or international driving permit. " English translation的链接中指名英文翻译需由NAATI出具，或者an official translation from the country of origin，或者appropriate consulate in Australia；所以办理一份翻译公证是最基本和最简单的要求。

TAS,塔斯曼尼亚："if your licence is NOT in English, you must also carry either an official translation of your licence OR a current International Driving Permit." 要求official translation，所以至少办一份英文翻译公证，建议办理认证。

ACT,首都领地/特区："Your foreign driver licence that is not in English, accompanied by an official English translation of the licence. An official translation means a translation certified by an Embassy or Consulate or by a National Accreditation Authority For Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) or an Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT) accredited translator. " 所以在首都用中国驾照，需要办理领事认证或NAATI等指定机构的翻译。
