Hnefatafl, also known as Viking Chess or the Viking Game, is an ancient board game that traces its origins back to early Medieval Scandinavia.

Hnefatafl is a game for two players. The game is one of pure strategy. A king and a small force of defenders occupy the centre of the board. A larger force of attackers, twice as numerous as the defenders, occupy positions around the edge of the board.

The goal of the king is to escape to the corners of the board, while that of the attackers is to capture the king, preventing his escape.

This fun set includes a fully illustrated book with game rules, tactics and the game history. The pop-up board can be closed at any stage in the game. When reopened all the pieces will be just as left and the game can be continued.
