前言

According to the UN SDGs Report 2023: Special Edition, climate change and gloomy global economic outlook have severely hindered progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). About half of these targets are moderately or severely off  track, and over 30% have either seen no movement or regressed below the 2015 baseline. Failure to redouble our efforts to achieve the SDGs can lead to greater political instability, upend economies, and cause irreversible damage to our natural environment. 

How the world should be like in the future? How to make it come true? What consensus should be reached at a global scale? China responds firmly to these questions of our era. 

On September 21, 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed a Global Development Initiative (GDI) at the United Nations, calling on the international community to speed up the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, pursue more robust, greener and more balanced global development, and build a global community of development with a shared future. The GDI advocates staying committed to development as a priority, staying committed to a people-centered approach, staying committed to benefits for all, staying committed to innovation-driven development, staying committed to harmony between man and nature, and staying committed to results-oriented actions. It provides a solution to development in the new era based on the characteristics of the times and the reality of China, featuring Chinese wisdom and experience, which helps to address challenges facing the world today and guide the new journey of global progress. 

Energy is a global concern that lies at the heart of almost all major challenges and opportunities. The reliability and sustainability of energy is particularly important for achieving other SDGs. As a leader in the global energy revolution and a power utility, State Grid Corporation of China actively responds to the GDI. By maximizing the fundamental and leading role of power grids, it seeks to ensure power supply and energy security, speed up green transition, adhere to self-reliance and strength in science and technology, and engage in international cooperation. It guarantees and provides robust power support for economic and social growth and improvement of people's livelihoods, and drives global sustainability in the process of building "a globally leading Energy Internet enterprise with Chinese characteristics". 

Implementing the GDI is an honorable mission that comes with significant responsibilities. State Grid has been committed to promoting sustainable development. This Report is a showcase of State Grid's actions and achievements in carrying forward Xi Jinping's energy security strategy, implementing the GDI based on the power grid, and contributing to economic growth and improvement of people's livelihoods. It aims to foster consensus on sustainable development and share with the world the mission and wisdom of State Grid as a pillar of the nation in building a global community with a shared future.
