The magical Peter Pan comes to the night nursery of the Darling children, Wendy, John and Michael. He teaches them to fly, then takes them through the sky to Never-Never Land, where they find Red Indians, wolves, Mermaids and... Pirates.

The leader of the pirates is the sinister Captain Hook. His hand was bitten off by a crocodile, who, as Captain Hook explains ‘liked me arm so much that he has followed me ever since, licking his lips for the rest of me’. After lots of adventures, the story reaches its exciting climax as Peter, Wendy and the children do battle with Captain Hook and his band.

J. M. Barrie詹姆斯·马修·巴利，英国小说家、剧作家。他出生于苏格兰一个织布工人家庭，家里第九个孩子。自幼酷爱读书、写作，从爱丁堡大学毕业后成为一名记者。1885年移居伦敦后成为自由作家并开始创作小说和剧本，他一生创作了三十多部作品，Peter Pan《彼得潘》是其久负盛名的一部，至今仍为世界各国圣诞节必演的魔幻剧目。为了表彰他的文学建树，爱丁堡大学、牛津大学和剑桥大学均授予他文学博士学位。英国女王赐予他从男爵的贵族称号。其他代表作有Little Minister《小牧师》、The Admirable Crichton《孤岛历险记》等。

James Matthew Barriewas born in Kirriemuir, Scotland in 1860. He originally wrote “Peter Pan” as a play and its first performance in 1904 was a hit. Barrie then adapted the play into the 1911 novel “Peter Pan and Wendy”. He was made a baronet in 1913 and awarded the Order of Merit in 1922. J. M. Barrie died in 1937.
