This is the official catalogue of the exhibition “Le Corbusier: Mesures de l‘homme” held at the Centre Pompidou, Musée national d’art moderne (Galerie 2), from April 29 to August 3, 2015. Commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Le Corbusier‘s death, the exhibition invites a rereading of his ?uvre through the prism of the human figure, in its corporeality as well as its perceptual and spiritual dimensions. Conceived as early as 1943, the Modulor would influence an entire generation of architects. Although this reflection on an essential and universal measure—the “man of series,” thinking and perceiving—is at the heart of Le Corbusier’s multifaceted work, no publication had existed to date that allowed this fundamental notion in the architect‘s work to be grasped. Enriched by contributions from young researchers, the catalogue presents the Corbusian trajectory through this thematic lens, from his Jura origins to his final days on the Mediterranean shore. It highlights the omnipresence of the human in his production, drawing on elements of his painted work, architectural achievements or projects, furniture, and writings, which testify to the richness and complexity of his thought.
