The Sonnets and Narrative Poems《莎士比亚诗歌集:十四行诗及叙事诗》为Signet Classics推出的英文原版诗歌集,收录莎士比亚全部154首十四行诗以及其他叙事诗,另附154首开头句索引表。本书由William Burto和Sylvan Barnet编辑,W. H. Auden作序,内容完整无删减,书本小巧便携。
With an introduction by W.H. Auden and commentary from Helen Vendler, among others, this volume presents all of Shakeseare’s non-dramatic poetry in one place.

SONNET 116
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no; it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests, and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
SONNET 154
The little Love-god lying once asleep
Laid by his side his heart-inflaming brand,
Whilst many nymphs that vow’d chaste life to keep
Came tripping by; but in her maiden hand
The fairest votary took up that fire
Which many legions of true hearts had warm’d;
And so the general of hot desire
Was sleeping by a virgin hand disarm’d.
This brand she quenched in a cool well by,
Which from Love’s fire took heat perpetual,
Growing a bath and healthful remedy
For men diseased; but I, my mistress’ thrall,
Came there for cure, and this by that I prove,
Love’s fire heats water, water cools not love.
