本书以单元形式呈现22个体育运动项目，各单元内在介绍运动基本知识的同时，融入不同主题的生活对话内容，并配有丰富多样的练习题目。本书可供攻读体育专业硕士学位的研究生、体育专业大学生、有志于报考国际裁判的运动员、教练员以及其他与体育教育相关的教学研究人员使用。

本书是为攻读体育专业硕士学位的研究生、体育专业的大学生、有志报考国际裁判的运动员、教练员以及其他与体育教育相关的教学研究人员编写的可供学习与研究的教材。它结合了学生英语学习的特点与体育运动项目的基本知识，呈现了22个体育运动项目，几乎涵盖了目前我国高校高水平运动队招生计划所涉及的全部专项，同时也是我国中小学及大学开展得比较成熟的体育教学项目。除了运动知识之外，本书融入了生活对话的内容，为体育教师双语授课、体育专业的学生以及体育工作者出国学习与生活提供了全方位的指导。在以上这些内容的基础上，本书为每单元内容配有相应练习，题型丰富多样，旨在帮助学习者更深入地了解各项体育专项知识，更有效地掌握所学内容并加以运用。
