Chika Higashi started Coci la elle in 2010, a Tokyo-based shop for handmade parasols that are painted or decorated with embroidery, and with no two alike. The brand name is a nuanced reference to the Japanese term koshiraeru, meaning to make. The rich expressions of these delicately crafted umbrellas can bring a splash of colour into any day startling, pretty, and at times with a pinch of humour. Coci la elle has since branched out to include original print umbrellas, scarves, and accessories.
