This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Chuck Close: Red, Yellow, and Blue" at Pace Gallery, New York, from February 23 to April 13, 2024. It marks the first exhibition of Close's work held by the gallery since his death in 2021. The publication focuses on the artist's final series of paintings, which employ only red, yellow, and blue hues, using transparent glazes layered to create a unique abstract effect, distinctly different from his earlier style. The book includes a previously unpublished conversation between Close and artist Cindy Sherman from 2018, as well as new essays by Carter Ratcliff and Barbara Knappmeyer that examine the artist's late works and situate his portraiture within the context of facial recognition technology.
