Marcovaldo has a practiced eye for spotting natural beauty and an unquenchable longing for the unspoiled rural world of his imagination. Much to the continuing puzzlement of his wife, his children, his boss, and his neighbors, he chases his dreams and gives rein to his fantasies, whether it's sleeping in the great outdoors on a park bench, following a stray cat, or trying to catch wasps. Unfortunately, the results are never quite what he anticipates.

伊塔洛·卡尔维诺（Italo Calvino/1923年10月15日—1985年9月19日），意大利当代作家。主要作品有小说《分成两半的子爵》、《树上的男爵》、《不存在的骑士》等。

Italo Calvino (15 October 1923 – 19 September 1985) was an Italian writer and journalist. His best known works include the Our Ancestors trilogy (1952–1959), the Cosmicomics collection of short stories (1965), and the novels Invisible Cities (1972) and If on a winter's night a traveler (1979).

Admired in Britain, Australia and the United States, he was the most translated contemporary Italian writer at the time of his death.

Italo Calvino is buried in the garden cemetery of Castiglione della Pescaia, in Tuscany.
