Graham Patrick is a graduate of Glasgow University where he gained the MacKay Smith prize for Organic Chemistry and won a Carnegie scholarship for PhD studies into the biosynthesis of gliotoxin. His postdoctoral experience includes posts at Strathclyde University with Professor Stenlake and Dr. Sneader, as well as the Australian National University with Professor Mander. He also gained a year's lecturing experience at Leeds University. His industrial experience includes research and development in the pharmaceutical industry with Beecham's, Organon, and MacFarlane Smith. His current post is at the University of West of Scotland where he lectures on organic and medicinal chemistry. He is also been an associate lecturer with the Open University for several years and tutors on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. His writing career began in 1995 with the first edition of 'An Introduction to Medicinal Chemistry' which is now in its sixth edition. He has also written textbooks related to organic chemistry and drug synthesis. Graham currently lives in Greenock and has outdoor interests that include sea kayaking, skiing and mountaineering. In previous years, he organised / led international expeditions for teenagers to the US, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. Currently, he is involved as a volunteer instructor for expeditions involving the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
