德国汉堡民族学博物馆（MARKK）此次展览《摩登印象》，带观众走进了中国在1911年帝制瓦解后的剧烈变革期。二十至三十年代，中国迅速迈入现代化进程：技术日新月异，图像与媒体大量出现，现代印刷业的兴起深刻改变了视觉文化与传播方式。本次展览首次系统呈现 MARKK 馆藏中极具特色的中国版画与印刷品，其中相当一部分源自 1927 至 1932 年间早期的中德学术合作，构成了馆藏中独一无二的历史脉络。

展览以这些图像为线索，呈现出二三十年代中国社会的活力与变迁。新媒体与新视觉语汇伴随都市文化蓬勃发展，从报刊、海报到教科书与彩色画页，记录着战争与科技、都市生活与消费文化等多样主题。同时，服饰、工艺与日常物件也反映了当时社会对“现代生活”的理解与想象。艺术家与出版者不断试验新的印刷工艺，创造出更鲜明、更大众化的视觉语言，其影响超越艺术领域，深入商业、传播乃至日常生活。《摩登印象》不仅展现这一时期图像生产的创造力，也重新揭示了这批馆藏背后的跨文化历史，使其在当下获得新的意义。

The MARKK is one of Europe’s largest museums of ethnology and world cultures. Its collection of around 350,000 objects spans Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, Oceania, and the Middle East and North Africa, reflecting the richness and diversity of cultures across these regions.

The exhibition Druckfrisch aus den Zwanzigern takes visitors into a period of dramatic change in China following the fall of the Qing empire in 1911. During the 1920s and 1930s, the country moved rapidly toward modernity. New technologies emerged, images and media multiplied, and modern printing reshaped visual culture and communication. This exhibition is the first to present a systematic selection of the MARKK’s exceptional holdings of Chinese prints and printed materials. Many of these works entered the museum through early Sino-German research collaborations between 1927 and 1932, forming a unique chapter in the history of the collection.

Using these images as a starting point, the exhibition shows the energy and transformation of China in this period. New media and visual styles grew alongside the rise of urban culture. Newspapers, posters, textbooks, and colourful print sheets captured themes of war and technology, urban life, fashion, and consumer culture. At the same time, clothing, craftwork, and everyday objects reveal how people imagined and created “modern life.” Artists and publishers experimented with printing techniques to develop bold and accessible visual languages that reached far beyond the art world, shaping commerce, communication, and daily experience.Druckfrisch aus den Zwanzigern highlights this creative momentum and brings new attention to the cross-cultural history behind the MARKK’s collection, allowing these works to resonate in the present.

Ricarda Brosch 策展人&作者

Ricarda Brosch 是德国汉堡民族学博物馆（MARKK）负责东亚与南亚艺术的策展人。拥有在德国、英国和中国学习的多重学术背景，主修艺术史与中国学，曾在伦敦维多利亚与阿尔伯特博物馆（亚洲部）以及柏林亚洲艺术博物馆（洪堡论坛）任职。她的研究重点集中于18世纪至当代的中国视觉与物质文化，尤其关注清代宫廷艺术（1644–1912）以及当代艺术与设计。她的策展研究发表于 The Burlington Magazine 与 Orientations 等专业刊物。目前，她正在伦敦考陶德艺术学院完成关于清西陵艺术、建筑与物质文化的博士论文。

Ricarda Brosch is Curator for East & South Asia at the Museum am Rothenbaum (MARKK) in Hamburg. An art historian and sinologist educated in Germany, the United Kingdom, and China, she previously worked in the Asia Department of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and at the Asian Art Museum in Berlin (Humboldt Forum).Her research focuses on China’s visual and material culture from the eighteenth century to the present, with particular interest in the Qing court (1644–1912) as well as contemporary art and design. She has published widely, including in journals such as The Burlington Magazine and Orientations.Ricarda is currently completing her PhD at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, examining the architecture, art, and material culture of the Western Qing Tombs.

Dr. Bernd Spyra (University of Freiburg) is a sinologist specialising in China’s visual and material culture of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His research focuses on print culture, photography, visual media, and transcultural collecting practices. In his current DFG-funded project, he examines the reception of Chinese popular prints (nianhua or New Year pictures) in ethnographic and folkloristic collections, particularly at the Museum am Rothenbaum (MARKK) in Hamburg.Combining archival research with collection studies, he investigates how ideas about“China”were shaped through the circulation of objects and images.
