黑格尔（1770-1831）是德国唯心主义的集大成者，西方哲学史上最伟大的哲学家之一，主要著作有《费希特和谢林的哲学体系的差别》（1801）、《精神现象学》（1807）、《逻辑学》（1812-1816）、《哲学科学百科全书》（1817）、《法哲学原理》（1821）；除此之外，《历史哲学讲演录》、《美学讲演录》、《宗教哲学讲演录》、《哲学史讲演录》等课堂讲授录也是黑格尔哲学的重要呈现。

黑格尔出生于今天德国西南部符腾堡州首府斯图加特。1801年，30岁的黑格尔任教于耶拿大学。直到1829年，就任柏林大学校长，其哲学思想才最终被定为普鲁士国家的钦定学说。因此，说他大器晚成毫不过分。1831年在德国柏林去世。

Hegel（August 27, 1770 – November 14, 1831) was a German philosopher and an important figure of German idealism. He achieved wide renown in his day and, while primarily influential within the continental tradition of philosophy, has become increasingly influential in the analytic tradition as well.
