1821年，贝多芬将奏鸣曲op.109献给19岁的MaximilianeBrentano，并在给她的信中这样写道:“在这个世界上，正是这种精神将世界上高尚而优秀的人团结在一起，所以我将这首作品献给你。”1812年，贝多芬已经为她创作了一首短小的钢琴三重奏(降B大调Woo 39)。现在她收到了一部完全不同的作品一一重量级的最后三首钢琴奏鸣曲中的第一首。令人震惊的是，贝多芬最初把第一乐章写成了一部独立的钢琴作品，后来才决定把它扩展成一部完整的奏鸣曲，今天看来，这首奏鸣曲是用一块石头凿出来的。

In 1821, Beethoven dedicated the Sonata op. 109 to the 19-year-old Maximiliane Brentano and wrote to her: "It is this spirit that unites the noble and good people of the world in this world, so I dedicate this work to you." In 1812 Beethoven had already composed a short piano trio for her (Woo 39 in B flat major). Now she received a completely different work one-by-one the first of the weighty final three piano sonatas. It is striking that Beethoven initially wrote the first movement as a stand-alone piano work before deciding to expand it into a complete sonata, which today seems to be chiseled out of a single stone.
