The art of southern and eastern Africa, unlike the better-known traditions of central and western Africa, has often been overlooked. This is due in part to the region's complex history of migrations, and the Western perception of its objects as mere craft artifacts. This book documents the Conru Collection, presenting and examining many previously unpublished artworks. It illustrates a wide range of objects, including rare figural sculptures, jewellery, regalia, prestige staffs, walking/fighting sticks, headrests, and snuff containers.
