Willem de Kooning (1904–1997) was one of the most influential figures of Abstract Expressionism and a central artist of the New York School. Throughout his seven-decade career, drawing remained fundamental to his artistic practice. Rather than viewing drawing and painting as separate disciplines, de Kooning explored their continuous relationship through line, gesture, material, and visual experimentation.

This volume presents the first comprehensive examination of de Kooning’s drawing practice, featuring nearly 250 works created from the 1920s through the 1980s.
