THE VINEYARD：In 2006 Daniela Weis - Nik's wife bought a plot of 1 hectares in the Mehringer Blattenberg vineyard, which was called “Layet"until the vineyard reform in 1971 and is till today one of the best vineyard parcels on the Mosel river between Schweich andNeumagen. This parcel, which had been in the possession of the prince abbey of Prim for centuries, becamethe property of the Prussian crown after the Napoleonic War and was subsequently part of the WineryFriedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium (FWG) in Trier, where this parcel at last enjoyed a reputation as a crown jewel.INS HOF • NIK WES WEOver the past 13 years the team around Nik Weis has more and more learned that this plot is and hasalways been a special vineyard and was also recognized and classifed in 2017 by the VDP as LAXETVDPVDP.GROSSE LAGE@. LAYET is one of the few historical vineyard locations on the mosel river and was notsubjected to land consolidation. The appearance is very impressive with protruding rocky outcrops andarduous slate terraces, on which vineyards with vines of more than 100 years thrive. The proximity to theMosel, which is very wide at this point, favors a light-flooded, warm microclimate in which the vines growwell. As a result, the old grapevines supports the formation of highly aromatic grapes with small earnings.

Characteristics：The mineral character on the nose is seduced by earthy-spicy notes that recall wet stones or the air after a summer storm. This wine reveals typical Middle-Mosel aromas: ripe apples, juicy peaches, and spicy-refreshing citrus notes. On the palate, it proves to be a delicate, smooth Riesling with a silky structure and strong grip—prioritizing its mineral character over primary fruit aromas. The long finish underscores this expressive, dense Riesling’s enormous aging potential.

Wine pairing: LAYET GG is well served with Piccata Milanese, Saltimbocca a la Romana, roast pork, Coq au Riesling, spicytuna tartare or grilled trout with cucumber-dill salad.
