Stephen Edwin King, an American author, is hailed as the "King of Horror." He is best known for his horror novels, but also dabbles in various genres including suspense, crime, science fiction, fantasy, and mystery. Although primarily known for his novels, King has also written approximately 200 short stories, most of which have been published in collections. King established his position in the horror literary world with his debut novel, *Carrie*, in 1974.
